Production Designer + On-Set Dresser + Scenic Designer

PREPARATION:

• Tasked with building a not-so-distant futuristic, abstract minimalist “charging station” for ELU (the robot servant)

• Drew up designs with my assistant, using a CNC machine to cut layers of armrests attached

• Built and assembled the base of the chair and its counterparts

• Planned safe transportation for the 8FT chair to the location that was 1.5 hrs away

PREP CONT’D:

• Created a home for characters that is specific to them

• Workedfrom the understanding that Mr. Gunawan (owner of home) is a painter and therefore created abstract minimalist paintings for walls

• Found furniture that highlighted the openness and light filled location

• Created continuity stylistically through the rooms, props and camera movements

EXECUTION:

• Walked the actress playing ELU through the structural nature of the charging station

• Carefully unwrapped then dressed the set with glass vases

• Worked closely with the DP and moved the furniture between takes and helped frame compositions
